Description Needles for gynaecological procedures

Pre-ovarian block (POB) needle

The POB™ needle is designed for application of local anaesthetics prior to transvaginal oocyte retrieval. With the pre-ovarian block (POB) technique, local anaesthetic is deposited with ultrasound guidance in an optimal place in the vaginal wall near the ovary. The follicle aspiration needle is then introduced at the site of the deposited anaesthetic. The needle is equipped with a luer-lock for connecting a syringe.

Amniosentesis needle

Used for ultrasound-guided amniocentesis. The needle is equipped with stylet and luer-lock for connecting a syringe. The length of the needle is sufficient for use in combination of with an ultrasound needle guide.

Cyst puncture needle with stylet

Used for ultrasound-guided puncture and aspiration of intra-abdominal cysts. The needle is equipped with stylet and luer-lock for connecting a syringe. The needle tip is provided with echo markings.

Cyst puncture needle without stylet

Used for ultrasound-guided puncture and aspiration of intra-abdominal cysts. To be used with a vacuum pump. The set includes the needle, tubing to the collection vial and tubing to the vacuum pump. The needle tip is provided with echo markings.

Chorion biopsy needle

Used for ultrasound-guided chorion biopsy. The needle is equipped with stylet and luer-lock for connecting a syringe. The length of the needle is sufficient for use in combination of with an ultrasound needle guide.

Benefits with local anaesthesia and conscious sedation during oocyte retrieval

Prof. Wikland has been using local anaesthesia together with conscious sedation since he started performing oocyte retrievals in the 1980´s. In this short movie where he explains why using local anaesthesia together with conscious sedation is beneficial, he also explains how to perform the procedure. The POB-needle can be used in this procedure.
